Show "BOHOMLESS" ROADS DELAY MAIL AND OTHER TRUCK AND AUTO TRAFFIC For a week or morepast the mail and express trucks from Lund to this place have been experiencing all sorts of difficulties, and freighting by truck has been entirely out of the question. One or two days, Inst Friday, for one, tho trucks stuck in tho mud and no mail was received. Later the mail was handled for several miles out of Lund with rigs and teams, and thorn loaded on trucks and brought to this city. This is, of course, both slow and expensive, but has been the only alternative. al-ternative. Tho warmer weather has withdrawn the frost from the ground and the roads arc practically bottomless, bottom-less, except where they have been well surfneed, and even these have been anything but good. Trucks bury themselves to the oxles, so that tho wheels can get no traction nnd nro as helpless as a chicken on a pond. The roads are drying, of course, but more storm is imminent, and it may bo some time beforo the situation is much better. It is about timo thnt railroad from Lund to this place was constructed. |
