Vikes honor volleyball players By TOM HARALDSEN Members of the Viewmont High volleyball squad were honored recently re-cently during a team banquet at the Mansion House in Ogden. Each Weam member was asked to reflect on the season and how she felt about ab-out it. Those feelings revealed the team had plenty of talent, and the girls had learned to pull together throughout the year to gain the success suc-cess that it achieved. Teammates thanked the parental support group following them, particularly par-ticularly Viking Pride leaders Louise Squire and Elaine Larsen. Both ladies presented coach Toni Bauman with a handmade quilt with the names of team members on it. They also made a similar pillow pil-low for Colleen Livingston and a gym bag for Mike Nemelka, assistant assis-tant coaches. Varsity awards were presented to Jeni Squire, as most valuable player; Trudi Larsen as most improved; im-proved; Michelle Kent as most consistent; and Becky Yeates as most inspirational. Junior varsity awards went to Janette Slater, most improved; Sherri Hansen, most consistent; and Kim Soelberg as most inspirational. inspira-tional. In addition, Tiffany Twitch- ell was saluted for making the academic all-state team. All captains were given beautiful monogrammed bracelets from the team, and all seniors received autographed auto-graphed volleyballs at the end of the season. Despite a number of nagging injuries, in-juries, Viewmont did capture second in the Bountiful Tournament Tourna-ment and third in the Clearfield-Layton Clearfield-Layton Tournament. The Vikings lost a playoff berth game to Alta, a team that later upset heavily fa-1 vored Weber in round one of the state tournament. Overall, it was a great year for the Lady Vikes. |
