Show Historical society to meet Jan. 19th LAYTON The quarterly meeting of the Kaysville-Layton Historical Society will be held Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Layton City Council Room (District (Dis-trict Court room). Guest speaker will be Don DeVere, curator and director of the Fort Douglas Museum. The topic will be Utah's military history. The lecture will be illustrated illus-trated with slides. All people interested in-terested in Utah history are invited to attend. There is no charge. Mr. DeVere, a resident of Kays-ville, Kays-ville, has a distinguished background back-ground in history. He is the recipient reci-pient of the Utah State Historical Society's Service Award. As director direc-tor and curator of the Fort Douglas Museum, he has a hands-on administrative admi-nistrative philosophy that gives every ev-ery visitor to the military museum both a pleasant and an enlightening encounter with local history. He is especially adept at capturing and holding the interest of young people peo-ple and has developed a Cub Scout test in Utah military history that helps the young boys qualify for a special patch. Members of the Kaysville-Layton Kaysville-Layton Historical Society are invited in-vited to renew their annual membership mem-bership which was due in October. Those interested in joining this local loc-al group are welcome. Dues are $6 for regular members and $4 for students stu-dents and senior citizens. There are several publications published by the Kaysville-Layton Historical Society available for sale at the Heritage Museum including in-cluding a Kaysville-Layton Post Office History, a booklet about the local general stores and a booklet about the death of LDS Church President, John Taylor. All publications publi-cations are free to society members. |
