The top-seeded player also will automatically receive one point. The seedlngs are determined deter-mined by player's record against other WAC foes. Ute Coach James feels that the battle for the team title is a toss-up toss-up between Brigham Young, Arizona Ari-zona and his own Redskins. Utah split two dual meets with BYU and barely lost to Arizona, whom BYU edged. According to Coach James, a factor that may work to the detriment det-riment of the Arizona schools may be Salt Lake City's altitude and the unfamiliarity wlith the Ute's courts. BY BRIAN NUTTING Sports Writer A top attraction in this weekend's week-end's spring sport championship roundup in Salt Lake City will be the 1970 Western Athletic Conference Confer-ence (WAC) Tennis Championship Friday and Saturday at the Salt Lake Swimming and Tennis Club. WAC tennis, rated as tops in the country along with the Pacific Eight by Utah Coach Harry J ames, will provide fans with great action and probable three-team battle for the championship. Many observers feel that this year's fight for the WAC team championship may be a repeat of last year's thrilling finish, that saw Brigham Younug edge out both Utah and Arizona by a single point, 17-16-16. In addition, five singles winners and two victorious doubles teams from the 1969 meet will be back to try for a repeat performance. Players on the seven teams entered en-tered (UTEP will not compete) will compete as individuals in one of the six singles spots and in one of three doubles classification. |
