Arizona State and Brigham Young will be the team favorites, ! with plenty of depth and out-: out-: standing individuals competing, j New Mexico also figures to place close to the top spot. Arizona j State is the defending WAC cham-j cham-j pion and has defeated BYU at two ; invitational tournaments. The Cougars have defeated the Sun I Devils at their Cougar Classic and 1 the Western Invitational. Coach Vinnie McGuire said that the course is in "real good" condition con-dition and that it is a tough, long course. He also stated that three of the top teams in the nation would be competing, namely, Arizona State, New Mexico and BYU. The Sun Devils defeated perennial powerhouse Houston by 12 strokes. Top divitors for the Sun Devils Dev-ils are Donny Powers, John Jackson, Jack-son, Dave Cheff, all of whom are the three highest returning finishers finish-ers from the 1969 WAC meet. The Cougars have Ray Leach, Lane Bennett and Chip Garriss as their top golfers. For Utah top individuals to watch are Don Christensen and Don Goodliffe. Coach McGuire said that the Redskins have an outside chance of winning the title because of playing on their course. |
