Show Contest Winners Read Essays At Program Winning papers in the annual essay contest sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary, V. F. W., were read Monday at the high school in connection with a patriotic pro-igram pro-igram honoring the birthday of George Washington. I Judging of the large number of essays entered in the contest, with I "United We Win" as the subject, i took place Thursday of last week, Miss Gloria Limb having been judged as over-all winner. Second-place winner among girls' essays es-says was Anna Marie Outzen, while the papers of Doris Terry and Ferrol Fotheringham were I given honorable mention. Wallace Mastros and Howard Moody were first and second place winners, respectively, among the boy con- j l.testants. i Atrocious spelling and poor' typing characterized a number of j papers submitted for judging, auto- matically eliminating them from consideration. The essay of Miss Fotheringham, a Minersville girl, was notable for clever use of descriptive de-scriptive words and phrases, which, if original, mark her for outstanding work in the future. V |
