Show Pump Wells Are Ordered Closed ; State Engineer T. H. Humpherys has proclaimed the closing of wells j diverting water from underground ; water sources in Beaver county, ; beginning with November 15, 1936, and ending with April 1, 1937, the official notice appearing else-j else-j where in this number of The News. I All persons owning wells or con-i con-i trolling artesian or pump wells are required to cap or otherwise shut off the supply during this period in each and every instance , where the water is not required for use use being restricted to j culinary and stockwatering pur-, pur-, poses. Water for winter irrigation ' is not recognized as beneficial use t and so decreed by the supreme court. In certain instances where, by reason of artesian wells being in rtinninsr sand where the well woi'ld be injured by shutting off the water, application should be made to the state engineer for exemption, whereupon examination will be made by him to determine the facts upon which to base a decision. de-cision. The closed season of underground under-ground water has been proclaimed , in the interest of conserving the underground water supply and to provide the maximum quan'ity for next year's use. As a result of I last year's closing order, the water in most of the underground basins I of Utah has raised ten feet, thus , materially increasing the available supply for next year's use.
