Show AND AN TWEE N with OREN PROBERT what a hectic week it seems very cyp cal of we americans to let th slide by I 1 that tain urge presents itself when such i a t me comes we suddenly awaken and try to sh our jated backlog of business and plea sure lure comm in a weeks time generally we absorb enough ex cit ement in those seven days to do us for the next three months this is exactly the way I 1 feel now I 1 wont bore you with business af if fairs of the week but w 11 relate a few of the highlights I 1 found in entertainment it would be well to start with the centennial parade which was held in salt lake city last day lowell bleazard byron steams stearns john hayward and myself piloted the tooele thoele county centen nial queen s float through two and one half hours of delightful cheer ing I 1 am not ced but hon estly bel eve our entry received the greatest applause of the day but then we had by far the largest float and equally the most gracious queen and two attendants and when they passed in review it was heart warming to know that toodie tooele county s efforts were be ing awarded that which was just ly due a good hand and smile of appreciation there were a few wolf calls too but then every county t have a marzene green a margene nor an emma lou adams to bolster up their morale friday evening beverly and I 1 at tended the much publicized motion picture duel in the sun the acting and photography were ex cellena but the story was very dis appointing many people were quite unhappy about the dollar and twenty cents which they spent for nothing but they 11 do it every time the motion picture industry is aware of this and employs a certain amount of psychology in upping prices on its highly bubli cited adventures they insert a little sex then censor it and the public eats it up oddly enough we humans will pay twice as much to see something like this as we will to see something really worth while we are suckers for sex and by doubling the price it adds the spice and we wouldn t miss it on a bet if you want to see a motion pic ture that is tops though don t miss dear ruth it tickles your ach for ninety minutes and sup port your arches tor for the next hund red miles saturday evening we saw pro valley starring alfred drake and jet macdonald er conditions were perfect the U of U stadium was packed with keople eagerly awaiting what they hoped would be a musical and dance extravaganza they were not disappointed many in fact de dared it was the greatest show they had ever seen the moment the director raised h s baton i i mus cal fantasy seem ed to appear before us all the corn com b ned talents of mother and human iture were in harmony with the prom sed valley the sound the I 1 ng the singing the ng the costuming and the color were superb the ind an ballett was the I 1 gh light of the show I 1 ha han e never seen anything more brilliantly por formed ormed this alone was worth the trip to salt lake I 1 would u d recommend that every one put prom sed valley on their must see I 1 st it s something utahna can be mighty proud of its it s some thing all entertainment c acles in the united states should see its something wonderful f sunday we went to see this Is the place monument there were several hundred out of state people vis ting the site and we were interested in the r comments one elderly lady said my these mormons were great people t I 1 read an art cle last week where the author stated that thomas E dewey was the most dignified look ing man at the recent governors conference held in salt lake city I 1 am certainly not in agreement although im I 1 m not in harmony with I 1 the demo crates I 1 bel eve the chief executive of utah is far more dig n fied fled than dewey another man who attended the conference but not in the capacity of a governor was david 0 mckay of the first pres dency of the church of jesus I 1 christ of latter day saints in my estimation st he is about the most dignified man in the united states I 1 in certain we all extend our sympathy to president truman tn his hour of sorrow I 1 have heard a few politicians comment this way though well it s a good thing bless her soul but ill mothers and fishing trips have been holding up the affairs of the united long enough now the only thing we have to do is stop truman from fishing |
