literary and civics club eighty old people of salina made merry and pretended to be young once more the entertainment began with community singing and was followed by A an address of welcome by mrs 0 G nielson Nic lson vice president of the club talas T G humphrey gave the response mrs angus mcdonald gave a reading there were two selections by the ladies chorus and community singing led by miss mary SIc Cullum while the luncheon was being passed around the old folks entertained themselves al L burns played a violin solo mrs T P peterson assisted by mrs clayton Rasmuss cn sang E IV W crane gave rind and accordion solo and an old time orchestra composed of A williams will crane L burns and joseph fordham played some of the old dance music music while a group of the old folks danced one of the quadrilles following the luncheon Iun cheon the entire crowd enjoyed the dances that were popular when they were young and in modern modem slang made whoopee whoopee that the old folks enjoyed it to the greatest extent et ent was shown by their sincere thanks for the kindness of the club ladies joseph fordham called by death funeral services for joseph fordham who died at his home sunday AT burr song by bv choir benediction E C wright mr fordham was taken to the north cemetery far interment followed by a large cortege of mourners and friends joseph joseel fordham was born xo no vember 24 1846 one day after his parents with other settlers in missouri had been driven from their homes his entire life was spent amid the hardships and dangers of the early west As a young man he served as a soldier and was one of the men sent down to this section of the country in 1874 when it was ivas ping settled to guard the pioneers from the indians from here he went to escalante and later to st george ge orge to help build up that country there he was married he was also a soldier in the black hawk war and excellent service for many years he lived in salina he was always willing to help his neighbors in in an any v way he could and even when ill would offer his assistance si during the past few fe v years he suffered from an incurable disease and several times became so ill lie he was and although he was ill he attended the program and took part in it he was so weak he had to be assisted to the staze stage and back to his seat mr fordham leaves eighteen children fifty eight grand morning in manti from there they left for a trip through Yellow yellowstone stoe park en route they will visit ogden and pocatello idaho where mr and sirs earl peterson of mcgill nevada will join them inning made six runs this seemed to get the salina boys and although nyles christensen was pitching for salina and ed jensen brought home the bacon in the form of a home run this bring the morale up to par and the game was a walk off for nephi in the sunday game with gunnison played in salina salina won eight to five ed jensen was mounds man for salina and valard for gunnison both teams were in deward hopkins hoplins and bill willoughby motored to richfield sunday afternoon to enjoy a swimming party mrs A J lewis and son thad left sunday morning for salt lake city for a few days visit they returned to salina the middle of the week mr and mrs frank steele and daughter returned to salina last week from mcgill nevada where they have been living for the past year they will visit in salina a few weeks reeks before returning to their home mrs max entertained the club at her home thursday afternoon mrs milton mccoy mis lavell dastrup mrs bud peterson mrs lee hugentobler mrs ted hall miss
