Show 'in' The Park City area will be the site of numerous top flight competitive ski races this winter. The Resort expects to be open for skiing in just over two weeks. Ski Racing Grand Prix Park West will host the first annual Dwaine Brown Professional Profes-sional Ski Racing Grand Prix, a series of seven races offering $18,000 in prizes. The event which is expected to draw racers from all parts of the Country, is sponsored for the most part by Dwaine Brown, Salt , Lake's Vonnegutesque car dealer whose living room commercials epitomized the soft sell making him a virtual legend. Other sponsors of the forth coming dual slalom and giant slalom races are the Lift House, Park West, and various ski equipment manufacturers. The races are open to members of the newly formed Intermoun-tain Intermoun-tain Ski Racing Association, which according to a spokesman, is similar to other associations around the country and could be likened to a "B" class of the World Pro Sking organization. Membership in the new association associa-tion is open to any skier over 19 who is not current member of World Pro Skiing. An initial fee of $25 will be charged residents of the intermountain states and $100 for outside racers. The fees must be paid by November 10 at which time they will be raised to $35 and $125 respectively. The races will each be three day events beginning December 20-22 and ending with the finals March 18-20. Races are also scheduled for January -7-9, and 21-23, February 4-6 and 18-20, and March 4-6. The first day of each event will be qualifying where the field will be reduced to 32 racers competing compet-ing the following day in the dual slalom and next in the dual GS. $1,000 prize money will offered to the top eight finishers in each race. Competitors will accumulate grand prix points throughout the series which will determine their standings and share of the prize money in March. The top point getter at the end of the series will recieve the use of a Chevrolet Camero courtsey of Dwaine plus a healthy chunk of the $5,000 to be divided up between the top 32 grand prix point winners. In addition to cash prizes, merchandise will be awarded courtesy of the various sponsors. |
