Show Creampuffs, puppets compete at SUSC Students from six Utah high schools competed in cream puff making and puppet stories last , week as part of Southern Utah State College's annual Vocational Day. "Over 200 students from Milford, Parowan, Piute, Cedar , Beaver and Millard high schools visited the SUSC Family Life Department for contests, demonstrations and a fashion show," said Ada Carpenter, department depart-ment chairwoman. Eleven teams competed com-peted in the baking contest. Stephanie Telford and Connie Tompkinson, Millard, won sweepstakes honors. Blue ribbon winners included Lori McNeely and Anita Maxfield, Cedar; and Teresa Lister and Dawni Bentley, Parowan. Each of the participating par-ticipating schools was given the cream puff recipe in advance. Students practiced making ma-king them at their respective schools then met in the SUSC cooking center for the final test. "Making cream puffs is an excellent test of cooking ability," Carpenter Car-penter said. "If they aren't done just right, they won't turn out." The only disappointment disap-pointment in the contest, con-test, she said, was the lack of men participants. Last year Beaver High School's Mark Messenger and David Nielson captured sweepstakes in souffle baking competition, com-petition, and another team of men, from Milford, won a red ribbon in the same contest. A story using puppets made from wooden spoons won Cedar High School student Sharon Judd the sweepstakes in puppet story competition. First place honors went to the Millard High School team of Marlene Perkins, Debbie Huffer and Pam Brinkerhoff. Piute High School students Michelle Bagley, Jana Hatch and Cindy Burr were awarded second place. Cindy Batt. Parowan. won third place in the puppet contest. "We appreciate the interest shown in homemaking competition this year," Carpenter said. "The entire day, from cream puff baking to the excellent demonstrations, was a success and we look forward to hosting homemaking activities again next year." . p-.J J: ffil: I 'Vi o o r.
