Show Brent Dix Ted Knight Paul Cozzens Four cited by VIC A Southern Utah State College students Paul Cozzens and Gary Ward will represent Utah June 15-20 at the National Skill Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, as winners of Utah State VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) competition. Cozzens, a freshman from Moab, and Ward, a sophomore from Malad, Idaho, won gold medals respectively in cabinetry-millwork cabinetry-millwork and radio-television radio-television servicing at state contests held recently at Brigham Young University. Also from SUSC were silver medal winners Jed Knight in cabinetry-millwork cabinetry-millwork and Brent Dix in industrial control electronics. Knight is a junior from Elko, Nevada, Dix a freshman from Cedar City. "SUSC has the newest VICA club in the state," said club advisor Kenneth Ken-neth S. Munford. "There are 30 students in the club; 20 of them participated par-ticipated in the state contest." Over 1,000 students competed in the VICA meet, including students from each of the state's trade schools, colleges and universities, and those participating in a separate high school division. This is the second year that SUSC has entered the contest. "Over a thousand dollars is needed to send Cozzens and Ward to the National Skill Olympics which are sponsored by the American Industrial Association," Munford said. "Contributions to help defray trip expenses would be very much appreciated." Cozzens is a 1980 graduate of Grand County High School. He is a building construction major, the son of Richard O. and Mary Jane Cozzens, Coz-zens, Moab. Ward is the son of Marilyn A. Ward, Malad. He is an electronics elec-tronics major, a 1974 graduate of Malad High School. Dix is an electronics elec-tronics major. He is a 1980 graduate of Cedar High School and is the son of Dan and Larue Dix, Cedar City. Knight is majoring in industrial arts. He is a 1979 graduate of Elko High School, the son of Charles H. and Elaine Knight, Elko. |
