Show A VERY PIN EXHIIHT Mr Daniels Opinion of Utahs Midwinter Mid-winter Fair Showing George H Daniel general paSsenger I agent of the New York Central and Hudson River railroad whose arrival in the city was announced exclusively in yesterdays Herald spent the day in looking over the sights and renewing I renew-ing old acquaintances Mr Daniel has been well acquainted with the business < busi-ness men of Salt Lake as until the enactment of the interstate commerce I law he was chairman of the Colorado Utah pool with headquarters at Denver I Den-ver and found it necessary very often j to visit the city to settle differences between i be-tween the roads On the enactment of I that law he rYiNev York and rose to the very prominent position he now holds I A Herald reporter called on Mr Daniel Dan-iel last evening finding him in his private pri-vate car He said he had come around I by the southern route to California visited the Midwinter Fair and was returning He had been much surprised sur-prised at the splendid physical condition condi-tion of the western railroads over which he had gone as he had not expected ex-pected to find i so good Several of the railroad men who have been to the fair say that it is not attracting a great deal of attention atten-tion in the east and that very little traffic has been caused by i What do you think of these statements I should say they are very erroneous errone-ous The fair has been well advertised by the press of the east and a great many of the travellers who would have gone to Florida or to Cuba or to another an-other mild climate to spend the next few disagreeable months have been led to go to California and to combine their enjoyment of I the climate with sightseeing Not that the fair itself is of sufficient consequence conse-quence to draw people from Boston New York and other eastern places But it Is drawing this migrant class The fact that the travel is large is evident when I state that I was informed in-formed by a general manager in Los Angeles that twentysix private cars were on the way west in one day Of course the fair is not a national institution That was never claimed for it I has been recognized as a I California i enterprise and as such is usuuiismng iiowever l particularly noticed Utahs exhibit which is very creditable to her and shows up her resources I re-sources tion in a way that attracts atten tionBy the way Salt Lake has grown I wonderfully since I was here last and it seems that it will continue to grow until its best friends will be astonished There is ample opportunity for it to become a great distributing point as it has a broad sweep of tributary country and no other large city to dispute dis-pute its claims I In conclusion Mr Daniel stated that he intends to make a visit to this country every two or three years in order to keep up with the course of events This is because the Central is an east and west road and is interested ard in all the traffic that comes from the west Therefore it is policy for the road to endeavor to help the west in every way |
