Show POTTES SHOULD BE SOLD I A Railroad Man Says Our Farmers Farm-ers Are Very Foolish A DENIAL OF SLASHING MR DARRAH SAYS HIS ROAD IS NOT IX IT A Queer Complication in Idaho Col Dodge Intcr ievrcd Superintendent Superin-tendent Welby Is Not Coins Mr Daniel of the Xew York Central Compliments Utahs Midwinter Exhibit A prominent railroad man who generally gen-erally knows what he is talking about and who is pretty well up on the situation situa-tion regarding rates and markets yesterday yes-terday remarked to The Herald man that the Utah farmers are losing a great deal of money because they are I refusing now to put their stored upI up-I potatoes on the market He said that for several years the farmers of this country have held their potatoes until late in the hope of getting higher prices and it has always resulted in their getting much lower prices that they would have gotten had they sold earlier In the case at present it is a well known fact that ten days ago twenty car loads of potatoes could have been sold for 10 cents more per hundred than the present price An agent was here trying to secure this shipment but no amount of pursuasion could lead the farmers to break in upon their storage The consequence is that the price has fallen these ten points and those who refused to sell have lost that much The fall was due to the bringing in on the market of the Colorado potatoes which have come into competition with those in Utah These potatoes are corning corn-ing into the market in greater quanti ties every day and i will not be long before the prices will take another great tumble In conclusion the rail road man said that there is still a very good market for the tubers at good prices but it will not last long and if the Utah farmers do not wake up to their opo unity in time they wil fid themselves with a lot of potatoes and no market This condition has existed every year for a long time The farmers I farm-ers should profit by experience |
