Show IRISH INDEPENDENTS Government Has Forfeited All Claims Confidence Dublin April 3The convention of the Irish independent party more generally gen-erally known as the Parnellile party was called to order today in the rotunda ro-tunda Among those present were the lord mayor of Dublin the mayor of Cork I John J Clanc 1 P and others During the days session a dispatch was received from the president of the Irish independents of New York as follows The Irish independent party of New York sends greetings and wishes you Godspeed in your fight for Irish liberty and an Irish parliament Draw on our treasurer John Brennan at Bank of Ireland Dublin for 55000 SignedEDWARD EDWARD OFLAHERTY President H G BANNON Secretary A message of sympathy was received from the Irish independents of Chicago Chi-cago John E Redmond in an address said the convention was imperative The political situation was so changed that the leaders felt they could not continue to bear alone the responsibility responsi-bility for the future policy of the Irish independent party and they had decided de-cided to call the present meeting Fifteen Fif-teen years of labor sacrifice and suffering suf-fering were endangered The cause of Ireland was confronted almost by ruin because of the selfish jealousies of men who under the name of anti ant Parnellites were slavishly subservient to the English and injured the cause of the people they represented by their party disputes The speaker then stated that it would be the policy of Lord Rosebery to make concessions to the Unionists to the detriment of Ireland and home ruleReferring Referring to the constitutionality agitation Mr Redmond remarked that he believed in it when i was conducted by fearless men but if this class of agitation was lowed to sink into a farce and a snam as it had in the hands of the antiParnellites then it was better that it be abolished and that men of stern methods and resolution resolu-tion come to the front assoon as possible pos-sible A resolution was offered by the of Cork declaring that the mayor government gov-ernment had forfeited all claims to the confidence of Irishmen and calling upon up-on the Irish members of parliament to strive for an early dissolution of parliament par-liament These resolutions were carried car-ried with loud cheers Mr Redmond concluded his remarks by saying the electorate of Clare demanded de-manded that he should not suppirtthe government as the latter had refused to release the Irish political prisoners ann when he returned to the house of commons he would tell Sir William Vernon Harcourt that the latter intended inten-ded to kill John Daily in jail and if the resignation bill preceded the evicted evict-ed tenants bills he would advise the evicted tenants to return to their I homes and stop these |
