Show ACQUITTED OF MURDER Prisoner Borne Bodily Front the Court Room Hammond Ind April 3 Albert Tooker who shot and instantly killed James Conroy and William Cleary game wardens on the Tolleston hunting and fishing grounds in John Hargins saloon at Tolleston March 21 was acquitted ac-quitted last night by Judge Carl Mor lock of the city court In discharging Tooker the court said that from the evidence introduced he was led to believe that the two men came especially prepared to beat some body from the fact that they wore heavy brass knuckles under their gloves Prosecutor W B McMahon of Crown Point who conducted the case for the state said that he believed that the knuckles were put on after the men were killed and was greeted by hisses which were stopped only > vhen the judge threatened to clear the court After his discharge Tooker was borne in triumph from the court room on the shoulders of six sturdy men and taken to a hotel where he held a reception Prosecutor McMahon threatens to have Tooker rearrested today on a charge of murder but no one is paying any attention atten-tion to that The people generally conclude con-clude that justice had been meted out to two of the most brutal bullies that ever disgraced Lake county The case has created considerable excitement ex-citement and many prominent people throughout the state send encouraging letters to Tooker |
