Show Music Students Take Part In Centennial PANGUITCH Several students from Garfield County Schools had the rare privilege of participating in the Centennial Reenaclment Ceremony held in the tabernacle at LDS Temple Square in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Jan. 4, according to Paul Hathcock, music director at Bryce Valley and Panguitch High Schools. Students from Boulder, Escalante, Panguitch and Bryce Valley elementary schools were part of a 700-voice statewide children choir. Those chosen from Bryce Valley were Jacob Moss and Rosa Lee Thompson (fourth grade); Codey Mortensen (fifth grade) and Leslie LeFevre (sixth grade). Panguitch participants were Audrey Hathcock (fourth grade); Mandy Cooper (fifth grade) and Kali Moore (sixth grade). The televised reenaclment ceremony was at noon, followed by a repeat performance (non-televised) (non-televised) at 3 p.m. Both were attended by capacity audiences. Key speakers were Robert R. Sewell, Salt Lake United Methodist Church; Gordon B. Hinckley, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Governor Michael O. Leavitt. Music was also provided by the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, Brass Works Centennial Band, Utah National Guard's 23rd Army Band and Robert Peterson, who sang a solo with the Utah Childrens Choir. The production concluded with a laser show, including images projected on the massive tabernacle ceiling. These elementary students are not the only ones to receive musical honors this fall and winter. In October, seven high school students sang in the Utah High School All-State All-State Choir which was also held in the Salt Lake LDS Tabernacle. From Bryce Valley High School, Gail Fletcher, a senior was chosen. Panguitch High School participants were seniors Rebecca Brinkerhoff and Tara Excell; juniors Jeff Cooper, Brandon Hathcock, Laura Pierson and Megan Redding. These fine singers were also part of a 700-voice choir of the outstanding high school choral students in the state of Utah. Congratulations are extended to all of these fine music students for their great work in local music programs and for the positive way that they represent our communities and county in statewide functions as these. |
