Show Darryl Peterson places in NCAA finals Pleasant Grove's Darryl Peterson, Peter-son, son of Eric and Ellen Peterson, finished fifth in the National NCAA Wrestling Championships held in March in Oklahoma. Darryl, a senior at Iowa State University, received the Iowa State Coach's Award for his performance in the Championships. This was Darryl's fourth consecutive postseason post-season tournament. He also won the tournament's Gorrarian Award which is presented to the wrestler recording the greatest number of pins in the least amount of time. Peterson racked un five falls in 5:31 for an unofficial NCAA record. The All-American wrestler, who ' weighs in at 340 pounds, compiled a record of 30-15-4 during the past season and finished fourth in the Big Eight Championships. Darryl was a junior college national champion when he was a student at North Idaho Junior College during his freshman and sophomore years. Darryl, a graduate of Pleasant Grove High School where he was a champion wrestler, was glad to have his former high school coach, Darold Henry, in attendance at the national NCAA finals last month. Named as an Academic All-Big Eight team member in 1984, Darryl has majored in telecommunicative arts and plans a career in movies in one capacity or another. As a high school student, Darryl appeared as a wrestler in the movie "Take Down" which was filmed locally. Darryl's wife, Rene, has supported sup-ported him in every way through his four years of college. They are the parents of two children.
