Show FORTUNES IN IVORY IN ALASKA'S RIVERS I I ANCHORAGE. Alaska, Dec. 2. Fortunes in ivory can be found along the riverbanks In the Idltarod and upper up-per Kuskokwin sections of Alaska, according ac-cording to prospectors arriving In An-chorage. An-chorage. The Ivory consists of mammoth mam-moth tusks, some of which are said to bo ten feet in length, which lie in (the glacial clay underlying the surface i gravels. j Naturalists beiipve that the tusks are the remains of some largu herd of prehistoric animals. One prospector said he counted several sev-eral Immense tusks sticking from thw bank of the Kuskokwlm while canoeing canoe-ing down the stream. All were too big for handling single hanaed and were! left behind. |
