Show PROVO ELEVEN CLOSES SEASON Young University Gridders Hope For Better Results During 1923 Race. PROVO. Dec 2 The B Y. U. infants in-fants have returned from Colorado and Wyoming, where they were defeated de-feated In the last two contests of their football season. Tho boys came home feeling fine In spito of the. fact that the season ended with them occupying a very lowly place on the conference football ladder. All. however, feel that the team has made a good showing this year when handicaps are taken into consideration. Now that football Is safely over, however, the entire squad of players will undoubtedly report for basket- ball suits early next week, as competition compe-tition for places on the team this year will be keener than It has been in many years in the vicinity of the big Mormon school. While Keeler. Packard, Jackson, Nielson, Partridge, Meredith, of last , year's squad will be In the running i there are many greonllngs who come ! to the old school with such well ; known repuUitlons that every man ! wdll have to work to hold a position j even on the squad. Keeler, who is i troubled with his feet, may not participate; par-ticipate; but whether he does or not, 1 then- will bo a half dozen youngsters I milling round center all tho time, any j one of whom has an opportunity to .land the much coveted pivot position. As forwards, 1'artrldgn and Meredith Mere-dith who held berths on last year's squad, will have considerable trouble beating some of the youngsters to the forward positions. Neither of last year's forwards Ls in school this year. That leaves both places open to tho best man available. If Packard's arm should keep him out of basketball, there will be no regular trying for guard. Jackson who played the position occasionally last year, will, no doubt, play again I this year. In competition with him tor the two positions will be Anderson Ander-son of Ix'hi, Keeler of Provo, Howard How-ard of Jordan Kimball of Jordan. Pyne Bwenson and Crowthor of Provo. and probably Hinckley of Weber, as well as a number of other lads who may be as good as any of I these, but who are as yet unknown here-. Although there is little hope of the "Ys" having as strong a team a; it had last year, it Is quite certain that a creditable machine will be entered in the Utah end of tho conference race. |
