Show May 20, 1977 Signpost Page 3 Summer qti loan applications available By Nancy Bailey Money for tuition assistance is available for summer quarter. Two major types of financial aid programs can be applied for, according to William D. Van Dyke, director of the college Financial Aids Office. One is the National Direct Student Loan; the other the short term Quarterly Tuition Loan. The National Direct Student Loan will make available as much as $225 to cover the cost of tuition and books for summer quarter. Eligibility will be based on the need of the student, and use the same standard as the Basic Grant index. In order to qualify, a Basic Grant form must be filled out and should be mailed within the next week. This will assure the fall grant to those who qualify and provide the needed information to apply for the summer quarter loan. The National Direct Student Loan is a government loan. It does not start accruing interest nor is it due to be repayable until nine months after the student completes his studies. The other program available is the short term Quarterly tuition loan; Van Dyke says there is more than plenty of money for this program. This loan will cover the cost of books and tuition but must be repaid before the beginning of next quarter. Prospects looked dim earlier this quarter for the summer aides programs due to the fact that fiscal money for the 1976-77 year had run out. The Financial Aids Office has made provisions to draw money from the 1977-78 budget to use this summer. Students will register as usual and will be given a special permit in lieu of their fee payment receipts. The financial aid checks will be issued some time after the first of July to pay fees, and all those students holding the special permits will not be charged a late fee. Van- Dyke stressed the importance of filing the Basic Grant forms soon and said they may be picked up in the Financial Aids Mice, the dorms and the Counciling Center of the Library. During the building and grounds report, Campus Planning Director Robert Folsom noted that construction on the Dee Events Center is on schedule. The seats will soon be installed. The entire structure is 85 per cent complete, with the parking only 15 per cent complete. The council also unanimously approved the appointment of Dave Midget to the Media Board.
