WSC student takes fourth by Kelly McFarland A Weber State College student , William H. Lyons, Jr., has placed fourth in the parade drum division of the 6th annual Western States Percussion Festival held at Northridge, Calif. The 20 year old political science major competed in the 19 to 26 year old bracket against entrants from seven states. Lyons qualified for the regional competition by placing first in the parade drum division at the first annual percussion festival of the Utah Chapter of Percussion Arts Society held at Utah State University. Lyons explained that a parade drum is used by marching and other outside bands. It is a little bigger than the snare drum used inside for concerts and the like. Lyons, a member of Weber State Marching Band, the WSC Wind Ensemble, the WSC Jazz Ensemble and the WSC Percussion Ensemble, studies under Doug Wolf, Weber State's percussion instructor.
