Show May 20, 1977 Signpost Page') Next Tuesday through Thursday Athletic banquet Wednesday Coaching seminar set up for women On May 4 through May 27, a seminar will be held on Women's issues and the teaching and coaching in the high school programs. The seminar will be held daily on Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. all other days in Gym 104. Miss Jane Miner, Weber State Women's Athletic Coach, will conduct the program. The seminar is designed to deal with Racquetball The Weber State Racquetball Club will host the Hill Air Force Base Team Saturday at noon in their final match of the year. The competition will be held on the physical Education Building's Racquetball Courts. Earlier in the season, Hill Field defeated Weber by two games. In that match, the 'Cats had played strongly in men's doubles and women's singles competition, but lost in men's singles action, 12 games to two. Areas covered in the seminar will include: the organization of a successful program; the philosophy of coaching and teaching; today's female athlete; Title IX; the organization of practice schedules; budgets and problem athletes. Further information is available from Coach Miner. The annual Weber State College Athletic Awards Banquet is scheduled for Wednesday May 25 at 7 p.m. in the Union Building Ballroom. A total of 130 lettermen will receive their awards at the banquet, while all graduating seniors will receive special awards. This event is sponsored by the Wildcat Club, which annually raises about $40,000 a year for Weber State Athletics in addition to supporting WSC Sports in many other ways. Lettermen and Wildcat Club Members should receive invitations in the mail, while guests will be charged $5 per plate. Fans desiring to attend the banquet should make reservations by phoning the Weber State Athletic Office at 399-5941, extension 605. Besides honoring the outstanding athletes in each individual sport, the outstanding scholar athlete for both men and women will also be named, along with the scholar athlete award for the athlete with the best academic standing. A Whildcat Club special award will also be made to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the overall athletic program. Highlight A highlight of the evening will be remarks by the guest speaker, Phil Johnson. Johnson is a name synonymous with basketball excellence at Weber State College, having played for the Wildcats and also coached at Weber. His overall record in coaching three years while at WSC was 68-16. He led his team to three straight Big Sky Conference championships as well as being named Big Sky Coach of the year. Johnson left Weber State in 1971 to become an assistant for j another former Wildcat Coach, , Dick Motta, with the Chicago Bull of the NBA.
