Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in. the Smithfield Second ward chapel by Bishop W. A. Hansen. Interment will be in the Smithfield cemetery directed by Lindquist and Sons mortuary. The child wandered away from home shortly before noon and was believed to have fallen into the canal near the ' point where it passes the Gittens home. Mrs. Milton Mangum, who resides re-sides at 555 North Second West street waded into the stream to pull the child out after it was sighted floating in front of the Mangum residence. The child was first seen in the canal by Mrs. George Berganger of 205 West First North street, who called to Anita Fergus, at 225 West Fifth North street for assistance. as-sistance. Mrs. Mangum heard their calls and plunged into the canal for the body. Mrs. Fergus applied artificial respiration on the lawn unMl police and firemen arrived. , A pulmotor squad from the Lo-ganOache Lo-ganOache fire department and Logan police worked for 50 minutes in a futile attempt to revive the child. Dr. E. L. Hanson pronounced him dead at 12:45 p.m. and stated that the child had been in the water about 30 minutes before he was discovered and that breathing and hlood circulation had stopped by the time he was taken from the water. The child was not immediately identified as Mrs. Gittens had not noticed he had strayed from home. Mr. Gittens who is employed at the Government hospital in Brig-ham Brig-ham City was at work at the time the drowning occurred. The boy was 'born in Logan, April 21, 1940. Survivors include his parents ,a brother, Dallas Edward Ed-ward Gittens; a sister, Marie, and the four grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Austin of Logan and Mr. and Mrs. David Gittens of Smithfield. |
