The Herald's Salt Lake special says: There is at present mure real dungor to the tenure and necks ol the Mormon chieis in ibis territory than ever impended im-pended over them in this territory before, be-fore, and they strive by all meanB available avail-able to stimulate their followers and arouse tho peopled the United States. During the last three weeks the counsels of the priesthood throughout through-out Utah have been belligerent nod ordeis from the commanders of the old Nauvoo legion summoned that body to get ready for action. Brig-bam Brig-bam Young has indicated to an immense im-mense congregation of Mormons at the Taboruacle in paraphrase, which necessity loug ago taught him to use, a willingness that they should be ready to defend nira and tbe church trom impending danger; yet he dislikes to have the meaning conveyed con-veyed to tbo outside world. While the Mormons are arming he desires tbe authorities at Washington and the people beyond Utah to believe that they are organizing merely for a holiday, and tbe newspapers here which are edited in the interest of the Mormon church describe the opposite view as seneationa. Governor Emery, who has his attention called to the facts, slid deliberates whether or not to take action in regard to them. One crucial fact before him is that the Nauvoo legion is a military mili-tary organization utterly disBimilated to any other in the United States, composed exclusively of Mormons, who were branded for treasonable , resistance to the United States troops j under Gendral Johnston, and it was ! subsequently disbanded, or rather j forbidden to assemble without his orders, by Governor Sbafer in 1S70. |
