Inasmuch as the cry of prospectors ia "on to the Big Horo," it is of vital importance to every person who con-; templates visiting the gold fields to know tho beat route to lake. The Big Horn country haa long siuca been regarded as the land of promise for gold Beckers, hence nothing need be said of the country but what id of ripecial importance to everyone is the best route. Tbere are thousands of men throughout tbe Btatea and territories terri-tories who have their mo?t sanguine hopes fixed on the Big Horn, hence tho importance of the best route. This would necessarily include safety, lirectnesa and celerity. The route possessing these advantages must, in the nature of things, be the lavorite, as speed and safety are the two characteristics of the age, and every prudent man will consider con-sider these fuels. TUera are several sev-eral routes advocated by which this country can be reached, but the facta show conclusively that the most desirable and practical route is from Rawlins, Carbon county, Wyoming territory. Cheyenne is distant over 400 miles, Green river ia 230 miles and Evanaton over 300 miles. The route lrom any of these points must ue for a great portion or the way over an unknown country, while from Rawlins the distance ia not over 150 miles, and tbat over a road that ia known and has a bguntiful supply of wood, water and grass. There iB now a regular mail service on this route forty-Gve miles out from EawlinB, to-wit: to-wit: To the Ferris and Beminole mining districts, where there are three mines now being worked by large companies. Siny miles out the road erodes the Sweetwater river by a good wagon bridge. This is the only .stream of importance or size on the Youte. Sixty-five miles out the road passes the famous "Soda Lakes," from which it ia sixty miles to the head of Powder river, and from that to the Big Horn it ia twenty-five miles. |
