Show Wreck ol the "Dakota" Thrilling Thril-ling Sciiues, London, 11. The passengers and crew oi the stranded steamer Dakota reached Liverpool at midnight. The Dakota got ten miles out of her course through miscalculation. She was in charge of the captain, but had a pilot on board cooperating. The error of the position had been discovered discov-ered belore tne vessel struck, and the land was distinctly sighted, when the engines were reversed and the vessel glided upon a smooth rock, where sue lay with her bow considerably elevated. The passengers' baggage and tne kits of the crew were mustly saved. The captain and some of the officers remain by the ship, but as the water covers portions of the after part, hopes of saving vessel and cargo are not great. As soon as the Dakota struck distress rockets were fired, and tne coast guard promptly responded, throwing a line to the vessel; presently a boat was launched from the ship; then shrieks of women and children were heard. The passengers were Handed down one by one from the bow of tbe Bleamer' to the boat. Coming toward the shore the current setting around the projecting headland head-land waB found very strong; the boat was borne on the breast ol a huge billow and dashed violently agaiuat the rocks. Theacreamsof the women as tbe boat struck were awful ta hear. All supposed the boat's party was lost, but tbe little crait dritttd back from the shore a few moments until it was fiually flung high and dry, from the crest of a wave, on the top of a high, broad and solitary cliff. Meantime the buoy had been attached at-tached to tho line and sent to tne ship's side. The women were secured, placed in the buoy and safely hauled ashore by the Btroug-arraed coaat guardsmen. Other boats put off from the steamer, after the buoy had made several trips, filled with the crew and male passengers, and in a comparatively compara-tively short time all had been landed, the captain and a few officers and seamen remaining. With the coming of daylight the mist which had enveloped en-veloped the steamer cleared away aud another large Bteamship was observed passing close at band. Rockets were at once set off from the Dakota, warning her of the coadt and thuB probably avoiding another disaster. disas-ter. The Dakota and cargo are heavily insured in Liverpool nnd London. The ship is valued at 00,-000. 00,-000. The vessel lies in an exposed position posi-tion with a list to seaward of forty-five forty-five degrees. There are thirty-five feet of wator over the taflrail otil at low water, one-third of the deck is submerged.
