Gammells win grand champion with horse at state fair show Dr. Blake Gammell and his family walked off with the top honors at the State Fair with their entries in the Horse Show. Mrs. Gammell's five year old mare won first in the mare class competition and then took the most coveted trophy grand champion in competition with outstanding horses of the intermountain area from Ida-ho, Wyoming and Utah. The mare also placed first in the mare and foal competition. The young filly took top honors also at the fair in its class. It is owned by young Ray Gammell, 5 years old, and was shown by a brother, Bill, age 12. i Mr. Gammell's stallion came in third place in the fair in the old classification. Showing horses is a family tradition now at the Gammell home. Every member of the family owns a horse and they enjoy competing with each other's entries in shows all over Utah, Idaho, and Colo-rado, where their entries have placed among the top exhibit-ors. The love of horses and ex-hibiting them began as a fam-ily hobby with the Gammells, some eight years ago and now they have a trophy and ribbon display to be proud of. Asked if they had exhibited in California, Mr. Gammell re-plied "No, but we plan to." The reading of newspapers, according to speech authori-ties, is one of the greatest aids to the increasing of one's vocabulary. DOWNSPOUT GUTTERS A' concrete gutter, leading water from downspouts away from the house, will reduce soil erosion. Such a gutter can be formed easily by digging a trench in the soil of the desired gutter length, 12 inches wide and about 6 inches deep. Con-crete is then placed in the trench and dip shaped with pointed shovel, tile or similar round item. Concrete for the gutter .need not be a matter of measuring and mixing the proper amounts of sand, gravel and cement. You can save a good deal of time and trouble by using Sakrete Concrete Mix, a ready mixed, ready-to-us- e product sold by most hardware, lumber and building material dealers. Mix water into the dry material as directed to provide a strong concrete mixture, ready for use. |
