Show Annual event ispiddi d ate fur ffliwteita Mm A recreation project which promises to become a more popular pop-ular event each year, is the annual Maple Mountain Autumn Aut-umn Hike planned for Saturday, Satur-day, September 28. The Mapleton City recreation department is in' charge of the event and issues an invitation to everyone, old and young, from 4 to 94, in the area, to take part, with prizes offered the first to reach the top. at 8 a.m. at right-hand fork of Maple Canyon approximately approximate-ly one and a fourth miles above to the top of Monument Peak Summit badges will be given to the first 150 hikers who get to t he top of Monument Peak and $40 in cash will be given to other climbers as follows: A $10 prize will be given to the first person, any age, to reach the top of Monument Peak; $5 to first girl or woman wo-man to reach the top. Horses are excluded from the race. At 1 p.m. a drawing will be held at the lake where those who have reached the top may win one of five $5 cash prizes. Everyone must register at the starting place before 8 a.m. or will be disqualified for the prizes. Those who participate should be well-equiped, sponsors of the hike explain. They should bring a lunch, canteen of water, good comfortable shoes, sweat shirt, or light jacket, hat or cap. The trail is steep in places, but is in good shape for hiking and the scenery, especially at this time of year cannot be surpassed. Mapleton Recreation Department Depart-ment announces that it will not assume responsibility of accidents acci-dents and in case of rain, the hike will be postponed a week until October 5. For further information, any townspepole interested are invited in-vited to contact Frank Johnson, John-son, city councilman, Wave Miguel, Mi-guel, president of the recreation recrea-tion department; Rea Bleggi, Quintin Lowe, Loween Whiting, Jack Canto or Orpha Dee Johnson, board members. It is expected that the many colors of autumn will be especially es-pecially brilliant at this time and should prove a thrill for the hikers. |
