Show The Ogden Valley news Page 6 Volume XXII Issue V May 1, 2014 Announcements Eagle Scout Award Chase Remington Earl Chase Remington Earl, 14, has obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Huntsville Troop 248, and is a ninth grader at Snowcrest Jr. High. He is the son of Michael and Jennifer Earl. For his Eagle Scout Project, Chase made new crosses for the Huntsville American Legion, Post 122, for Memorial Day 2013, which were placed on the graves of veterans. Pictured left are Chase Earl. Anniversary S. Ivan and LaVoie Quist The Cowboy and the Lady, S. Ivan and LaVoie Quist of Huntsville, are celebrating 65 years of marriage. They were married April 12, 1949 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. They will be honored at a family dinner April 26. Ivan was born in Ogden, Utah to C. Ivan and Cleo Cornia Quist. He graduated from Weber High School, and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from Utah State University. He has been employed at Aultorest Mortuary, as a cowboy on family ranches in Woodruff and Randolph Utah, Defense Depot Ogden, Kress Co., Naval Defense Depot, Boyles Grocery, Hill Air Force Base, Standard Plumbing, and as an educator, counselor, and administrator for the Ogden City School District, retiring in 1989. Ivan’s interests and hobbies have included horses, posse, humanity, reading, LaVoie and S. Ivan Quist philanthropy, and travel. LaVoie was born in Wellsville, Utah to Elton E. and Velma Leishman Ozmun. She graduated from Ogden High School. She has devoted her life to being a fabulous mother and homemaker. She has opened her home and heart to many. Her interests and hobbies have included service, cooking, family, gardening, travel, embroidery, art, and crocheting. Ivan and LaVoie have belonged to various organizations throughout the years, and have served faithfully in numerous church callings in the LDS Church (a treasured calling was that of bishop in the Ogden 61st Ward). Ivan and LaVoie served in the New York Gowanda LDS Mission from 1994 to 1995. They served as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple. They have truly lived. Their five children and spouses are Farley and Judy Quist, Liberty; Debbie and Allen Melle, Huntsville; Jeanette and Mark Goodson, Huntsville; Rob and Heather Quist, Huntsville; and Jeff and Shannon Quist, Farr West. Katherine “Katie” Pauline Marcus Obituaries Marjorie King Hilton March 31, 1924 ~ February 7, 2014 Marjorie King Hilton, age 89, died February 7, 2014 in Ogden, Utah. She was born March 31, 1924 Marjorie Hilton to Olive and Earl Rush King in Detroit, Michigan. Marjorie was a strong and courageous woman who believed Earl Chambers September 12, 1932 ~ April 3, 2014 Earl hung up his hat and pulled off his boots for the last time on Thursday, April 3, 2014 after a hard fight with cancer, with his loving wife and family at his side. He was born Earl Chambers September 12, 1932 to Parley Burton and Ellen Alean Orton Chambers in Eden, Utah. Earl leaves behind his loving wife, Devon Jane Richards Chambers, who he was sealed to in the Logan LDS Temple in 1964; four children, LuAnn (Larry) Foxley, Rock Springs, WY; Ronnie (Rose), Liberty; Kevin, Huntsville; and Gregg (Natalie), Eden; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren with two more arriving soon; and sister, June Barker, West Haven. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters, and his in-laws. Dad loved having his family close and always at the house. He always believed “Families were forever.” He loved his work, Larry Milton Buttars August 18, 1933 ~ April 8, 2014 Larry Milton Buttars passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born August 18, 1933 in Preston, Idaho Larry Buttars to Milton LaRue Buttars and Gladys Nina Buttars. Larry attended Utah State University. He worked for Nielsen, Reeves & Maxwell Engineering. Larry and another partner started Great Basin Engineering and Surveying in 1958. In 1976, he started his own business, RIS Land Surveyors. He was a successful businessman and land developer in Davis and Weber Counties. During his life he was on many boards and organizations, including the South Ogden City Planning Commission and the Ogden Engineers Club. Larry married LaRene Udy in 1955. They were later divorced. He married Connie R. Smith in 1969. They were later divorced. He married Vonita (TJ) Buttars July 4, 1986. Larry is survived by his children: Valerie Hammer - Ogden, Utah; Dallas (Jodie) Buttars - Layton, Utah; Marina Atwater - Cottage Grove, Oregon; Kristin (Alan) Myers – Ogden; Keri Squires (Larry Humphries) - Woods Cross, Utah; Trina (Shane) Dykster - Nephi, Utah; and Amy Pierce and Jennifer Price. He has 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Larry is also survived by his sister Gaylene B. (Dick) Loeffler of Huntsville, Utah; and brother Alan L. (Willow) Buttars, also of Huntville; and his very special puppy Pepper. in social justice and worked tirelessly for civil and women’s rights and to promote education and the arts. Marjorie is survived by her husband of 44 years, Clifford Hilton of Ogden, Utah. Her son Andrew Johnson predeceased her in 2005. An informal service will be held May 3, 2014 at the Ogden Valley Branch Library at 11:00 a.m. in Huntsville, Utah. He later started his own company—Chambers and Sons Construction. He was instrumental in so many projects near and dear to the valley and state. His first job as a young man was working on Pineview Dam and cutting the roads to Powder Mountain, North Ogden Divide, Powder Mountain Ski Resort, Nordic Valley Ski Resort, some runs at Snowbasin, Wolf Creek Golf, White Barn Golf, Sherwood Hills, and too many others to mention. A very honorable and well respected man for his hard work ethic, we know that he is up above with a smile on his face building roads in heaven. Earl’s legacy will always be one of love for his family. It will continue on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. “Till we meet again.” Funeral services were held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Nordic Valley Ward, 2900 North Highway 162, Eden.
