The Weber County Library can help! FREE Discovery Time programs featuring stories, music, and learning activities designed to teach the five best ways to help your child get ready to read. Learn easy, fun ideas to help your child develop pre-reading skills at home. The programs, developed for infants and children up to five years, are presented in seven-week blocks. After School Program - Wednesdays, 2:30 p.m. Do you want to learn how to make your own catapult, create some slime, or construct a handy periscope? This FREE program, recommended for children in kindergarten through 6th grade, is offered once a week throughout the duration of the school year. Senior Lunch Program – Wednesday @ 12:00 p.m. Senior lunches are served in the Community Room. There is a suggested donation of $3 for seniors, and $6 charge for patrons 59 and younger! The Ogden Valley Branch’s expert knitter is offering a free class to people at all levels, from beginners to individuals who would like to improve their skills. Yarn and needles will be available for practice during the lesson, or bring your own supplies for projects that can be continued at home. National Children’s Book Week - May 12 – 18. Gallery 25 Features Artwork of Award-Winning Utah Artists Kris Wilson and Doug Wride Beginning May 2, Gallery 25 will feature enjoys expressing his feelings about the beauty the artwork of local award-winning artists Kris Wilson and Doug Wride. Wilson is a Utah native residing in Ogden Valley where, she says, she finds freedom from life’s distractions as she paints in her Huntsville art studio. Surrounded by the solitude of this mountain valley, which is filled with vast amounts of reference material, her studio provides a comfortable place where her creative spirit tends to run wild. “Impressionistic Realism,” is how Wilson describes her work, “Lots of rich, buttery oil paint spread with palette knives and brushes.” Wride is a Northern Utah watercolorist residing in Pleasant View with his wife and three children. Wride was born in Hailey, Idaho, and has spent most of his life living in the Rocky Mountains. Wride says that he truly of God’s creations and rural America. Gallery 25 represents Utah artists working in oil, watercolor, and pastels. Their works have won numerous awards both locally and nationally. Subject matter covers many areas of realism, such as still life, landscapes, wildlife, and portraits—as well as non-representational art. Original pottery; jewelry; and hand-turned wooden bowls, vases, and peppermills can be purchased at Gallery 25, as well as original fine art giclee prints and greeting cards. You can also enjoy a walk through the museum while there. From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. artist James W. Fain will be on hand with a display of his photography. Fain is a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association and the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Artist Association. He states that he has been snapping photos of the high school, college, and PRCA rodeos for over 50 years. He will be the museum’s guest during the First Friday Art Stroll. The quality of Fain’s work garnered the PRCA Photographer of the year award in 1996 and 2006; the Pro Rodeo Cowboy Artist lence in 1993; and the National High School Rodeo Association’s Man of the Year award in 1998, just to name a few accolades he has received for his art through photography. His photographs have also appeared in motion pictures, his own books on rodeo; inside autobiographies of well-known entertainment icons, as well as in numerous magazines and newspapers throughout the United States. As recently as January 2014, his work was featured on the cover of the Pro Rodeo Sports News. Jim started out as a rodeo cowboy, which gave him a unique prospective for the best action shots. Many of his photos are at the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is equally experienced in scenic and family photography. Those who have known and worked with Fain over the years consider him to be one of the best rodeo photographers in the west.
