This is the business’ eighth year in operation. Owner Jami Willson states, “We are excited. This year we have expanded and built a third green house and now have a large variety of plants available, including vegetable plants, and many beautiful hanging baskets.” Other items Willson Greenhouse will have on hand include: • Great Mother’s Day gifts • Annuals, vegetables, & perennials • Great soil mixes, such as turkey mulch, soil prep, & garden box mixes • Raspberry and blackberry plants • A variety of peonies In addition, Willson Greenhouse can assist customers with flower pot arrangements, and most garden needs, including a large variety of vegetable and herb plantings. Willson Greenhouse will be open for business May 5 through June 21 for the 2014 season. Business hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Jami adds, “We carry garden box mix and soil prep items—professional garden mix, turkey mulch, and garden A-Z garden vitamins. Our Garden Prep can be used as soon as the snow is gone. Apply pre-emergent on flower areas and garden beds early to stop weeds from germinating. “We would love to hear from you and answer any of your gardening or plant and planting questions that you may have. You may also enter our drawing for a huge potted planter—an $80 value.” Willson Greenhouse is located at 5626 N. North Fork Road in Liberty. For more information, call 801-941-1013 or email <jamiwillson12@hotmail.com> Seventh Annual Ogden Music Festival Announced: Tickets now on sale Sixty-Six New Bird Abodes on Exhibit at Ogden Nature Center: Winners Announced Take a stroll down Birdhouse Trail at the Ogden Nature Center to view 66 new birdhouses along the Center’s entry pathway, along with 70 or more birdhouses that are all part of the Ogden Nature Center’s annual Birdhouse Exhibit. All are on display through August 30, 2014. This year’s birdhouse entries showoff some true woodworking skills, along with some pretty wild creativity! Some birdhouses provide excellent, functional abodes for birds. Entries range from elegant to rustic—and everything in between. Some of the birdhouses are for sale, with all proceeds directly benefiting “Oriental Beach House” by individual Norm Skanchy of Eden. artists. The Ogden Nature Center awards cash prizes to several winners each year. This year’s top three awards, and their recipients, were: • Best of Show/Commission Award: Brass House by Nathen Byrne of Ogden • Judge’s Choice Award: Oriental Beach House by Norm Skanchy of Eden Hollering Pines, and many others. Seasoned local artists will be showcased as “tweeners,” • Honorable Mention Award: The Lighthouse by Rick Steen of Salt Lake City performing short sets between major acts. In addition to main stage performances, Regular admission price to the Ogden several artists will conduct free instrumental and band workshops at the Workshop Stage. Nature Center is $4 for adults, $2 for children, The festival will also feature the Utah State and $3 for seniors. Annual memberships are Instrument Championships, with open and also available, which provide free entrance novice divisions in flat-pick guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and finger-style guitar (open division only). Canoe rentals, kids’ games, and nature-themed crafts will be part of the festivities. Local vendors will provide food, brews, and fun festival gear. Onsite camping is available. The campground is beautiful and the jams go through the night. Pre-sold admission is $55 for the entire weekend or $25 for a single day. Price increases $5 at the door. Kids 16 and under attend free! Military and senior discounts are available at the door. Valley 2014 Birdhouse Prize Award Winners In the Children’s Awards category, Aspen Sky Vierra (age 5) of Eden’s bird house, named “You Are My Valentine,” captured a 2nd Place win, and an award for Unique Use of Materials. Her birdhouse was made of Popsicle sticks, a cocoa can, hearts, and cardboard. For Adult Awards, in the Unique Use of Materials category, Bob Burnside of Eden and Fred Tisue of N. Ogden won 2nd Place for their “Bird Rescue” with their plastic water rescue can. Norm Skanchy, also of Eden, cornered a 1st Place win for his “Temple in the Sky” wood and copper designed birdhouse. A second birdhouse he created, “Oriental Beach House,” made of sand, pine needles, wood, and “Living Willow Hut” by pebbles, was hon- Jamie Taylor of Huntsville. ored with the Judges Choice Award. And, finally, in the adult category for Best Use of Natural Materials, Jamie Taylor of Huntsville took home a 1st Place win with his birdhouse titled “Living Willow Hut.” The birdhouse was constructed of cattail leaves and native living willow trees. |
