St. Joseph Catholic High School Recognized by Washington Post A small school with a long past and bright future is the only school from northern Utah to be named as one of America’s most challenging schools by the Washington Post. Saint Joseph Catholic High School was ranked #50 on the list of top private schools in the nation. The only other school in Utah to make the list was Waterford School in Sandy. The Challenge Index ranks schools on the number of Advanced Placement tests taken in comparison to graduating students. In order to be ranked nationally, Saint Joseph had to have an equivalent number of students taking an AP exam as graduated from the school. From there, the school was ranked against all of the other schools in the nation who met the criteria. Patrick Lambert, Principal of Saint Joseph Catholic High School, said that the qualifying standard to be ranked nationally is very hard to reach. He noted that the faculty is excited to be recognized for the good work they have been doing for a very long time. This ranking places Saint Joseph in the top 1% in the country. Joanna Wheelton, President of Saint Joseph Catholic Schools, added that while the AP pass rate is not included in the rank, it is published. “Saint Joe’s had not only a large number of students taking AP exams, but an exceptional pass rate--which is not true of all of the schools that qualify.” Another rate that is published, though not calculated in the rankings, is the number of students who are eligible for federal lunch subsidies. This metric allows for comparison of the number of lower-income families served by the school. While the other private schools had a very low percentage of low-income families, Saint Joe’s was more on par with traditional high schools in their demographics. “We are proud of the fact that we are a highachieving school. We are very proud of our diversity. This recognition shows not only the caliber of our teachers, but that of our students and their parents.” Wheelton added. “We are just continuing to do the best for our students. But, it is nice to be recognized.” For more information about St. Joseph Catholic High School call 801-394-1515. Now’s the time to throw open the windows, roll up the rugs, sweep out the corners, banish the cobwebs, paint the walls. Your Valet Dry Cleaning is here to help with a few tips on how to care for your household furnishings and clothing. 1. Bedrooms - Blankets, bedspreads, quilts, duvet covers and dust ruffles should be cleaned before storing for the summer. Your Valet returns household items in permanent breathable bags, with convenient handles, perfect for storing under the bed or in a hall closet. There is no extra charge for these convenient bags, and you’ll love them! Love that old feather pillow, but its seen better days? Your Valet will renew your pillows; feathers will be sanitized, deodorized, cleaned and fluffed, then put into sparkling new 230 thread count, 100% cotton ticking, which is used in the finest 5 Star hotels. We can even add more feathers if you wish. 2. Closets - Create space for new summer outfits! Sort closet contents into two piles— one with items for charity (the YCC, Salvation Army, or Deseret Industries, and resolve to drop them off next week); and the second pile--clothes you love. Review their condition and clean before storing. Do they need to be mended or altered? Don’t wait until you need that item; we have alteration specialists who can make that garment like new! 3. Storage - Store clean sweaters/knit items folded to prevent stretching and distortion. Don’t store in a plastic bag unless it has a breathable panel. Store in the living portion of your house to avoid extreme temperatures. Other clothing items should be removed from our poly bags, with the paper dust cover left on to protect shoulders from dust and light fading. 4. Living/Dining Rooms - Draperies are a specialty of ours. Take-down/re-hang service is available. We don’t want you climbing any ladders! Clean draperies can make a room look refreshed. Another good time to clean is when you’re painting or re–doing the walls. More information on caring for your draperies can be found on our website at <www.yourvalet.com> Table linens should be put away clean; food spots and stains will set with age and sometimes cause delicate materials to rot. 5. Miscellaneous Items - We can clean various miscellaneous items such as sheepskin rugs, sleeping bags, UGGS, and, of course, one of our specialties is preservation of wedding gowns; and antique items such as quilts, flags, service uniforms, linens and other valuable memorabilia. When you receive your cleaned item, you never need to hang them out in the fresh air or in your garage before putting them away. Our environmentally friendly GREENEARTH process is completely odorless! Your Valet has two locations to serve you, 2274 N. Washington Blvd. (behind Zions Bank); and at 2898 Washington Blvd., in downtown Ogden. |
