Show 18 Hilltop Times LIFETIMES May 10, 1991 r Suggestions that are turned down can be reconsidered anytime during the one-yeownership period that begins on the day of nonadoption. The Hill workers received suggestion award money totaling $178,223 in March. Curtis Mod son, a sheetmetal mechanic, in the Aircraft Directorate, was awarded $4,684 when he noted that the required procedure of freezing a press-fi- t bushing in liquid nitrogen and then installing it on with an impact driver and hammer somethe times caused damage to the critical leading edge spar and flap. Mr. Hodson proposed the manufacture of a special tooling to install the bushing without risk of damage that might result in condemnation of the flap. Bradley Helm, armament systems specialist with the 419th Tactical Fighter Wing, noted that no procedures for checking bent or damaged guide bars on certain 20mm automatic guns existed and that rear housing inspection procedures could be inadequate. Mr. Helm suggested using at field level the same procedures used at depot level. The equipment required is inexpensive, especially when compared to the damage done by even one gun jam. The award for the suggestion was $2,500. A repair for damaged radar system cable was proposed by Enos H. Cummings, mechanic's helper, and Alan R. Young, electronics mechanic, both of LA. The cable exterior, prone to nicks and cuts, can now be repaired instead of replaced. The award totaled $1,642 which was shared equally. Carol J. Wheeler, a supply clerk in the Contracting Directorate, was awarded $1,380 when she realized that the number of copies per purchase request could be reduced from 35 to 15. Reproduction costs s and required to produce the request both dropped as a result of the suggestion. A circuit board in the electrical synchronizer on certain radar systems had severe etched run and eyelet damage, necessitating the replacement of the board. Charles L. Small, an electronic technician, and Mark Lynch and Ron Monsen, electronic of the mechanics, all of LA, suggested a board that results in significant replacement cost savings. The men shared $1,211. ar sug-gest- er requesting reconsideration must provide additional evidence or clarify signficant issues.
