Show LOST OPPORTUNITIES. By observance through life, It is noticed that men who succeed therein, there-in, have the foresight to embrace opportunities op-portunities when presented, and It Is often heard that such men were born lucky. On the other hand there are men who fail to grasp advantages when presented, and they do not succeed suc-ceed and of this class It is often said they are unlucky and unfortunate. To this latter class Logan city rightfully right-fully belongs. Years ago the railroad work shops were In this city. Overtures Over-tures were made the city by railroad ofllclals asking certain concessions for the railroad company that the shops might be lcbullt. One of them was for Logan city to grant tho railroad company free water for 20 years, and give them forty acres of land west of town. The company would agree to rebuild thu shops and keep about two hundred men employed for twenty years. Logan city would and did not make the concessions. The result was the shops were moved to Idaho Falls, and from there, to their present location, loca-tion, Pocatcllo. A few years later the main lino was taken from this side and Logan, with the principal settlements of Cacho county, were placed on a spur where they now arc. It is needless need-less to euumeiate the disadvantages we have been placed under since tho change. They aro apparent to all who have lived In this city long enough to note the perceptible change. Logan's failure to advance this proposition pro-position Is an Instance where an opportunity op-portunity was allowed to pass which meant hundreds of thousands of dollars dol-lars to this valley. Of recent years Logan city has been favored with tho Installation of some of the lincst educational edu-cational Institutions In the west. Since the advent of these colleges, the city of Logan has forged to the front, In her business Interests especially, as a large amount of merchandise is needed to supply the students. Within With-in the past few dajs a .sad calamity has come to one of these institutions and at the present time the cltl?ens of this county ate confionted with a serious condition, considering the complications that have arisen. Within With-in the past few years, Logan and Cacho vajley have piofesscd loyallty to the A c" of U. Amopportunltv now presents Itself for all of us to exhibit our loyallty in a more tangible way, by contributing In part to Hie rebuilding re-building of Hie burned buildings. Upon Up-on these contributions of Cache county may possibly hinge the question ques-tion "to build" or "not to build," by the board of examiners. Let the people peo-ple of Cache county respond liberally and cheorfuUy and not let this opportunity oppor-tunity pass that means thousands of dollars In a business way, besides the educational advantages. By responding respond-ing In tho proper manner, wo will have tho govcrnor.board of examiners, , the next Legislature and the whole people of the stato our friends, : and they cannot turn us down. "Llko I begets like," and If we aro loyal to tho ; institution, those having it In charge ', aro honor bound to be loya1 to us. Logan and Cache county, don't let ; this opportunity pass. |
