Show THE BOARD OF EDUCATION . I Meets in Special Session, Hires Teachers and Passes Resolutions. Superintendent Merrill H Says Board has Failed to Support him and Tenders Resignation. IH At a meeting of the Hoaul of Education Edu-cation Friday evening business of consldeiable con-sldeiable Importance to teachers was transacted. The following lesolutlon was unanimously passed: He It resolved by the Hoard of Education Edu-cation of Logan City that those teachers teach-ers who took tho examination, last )ear shall bo excused fiom taking examinations ex-aminations In subjects In which they received 80 per cent or above. Resolved, That all teacheis who expect ex-pect to enter the corps dining the coming school jear be requested to take the July examination. The first examination was set for July 20th, 21st and 22nd, and Prof. W. S. Langton of tho Agi iuirILrn.il college and Piof. D. C. Jenscuof the Hiigham Young college, In conjunction with the Superintendent were appointed a board of cxaiulueis Census enumerators weie appointed as follows: Flistwaid, George C. Jensen; Jen-sen; Second ward, George F. Stratton; Third waul, Salome Caipenter; Fouith ward, Jens Peter Jensen; Fifth waid, Victoi Crockett. At this session Supt. A. M. Merrill made It known that It was his intention in-tention to leslgn, and suggested that If the Hoard would agree to a date, he would hand in his resignation J.o take place at that time. Supt. Men 111 was elected last ) ear for a term of two yea is and of course has a full jear yet before him. He states that tho Hoard, and cspeelall) tho Committee on Teacheis and Woik, made up of Messrs. Htillcn, Apporly and Jensen, lias failed to givo him pioper support, and feeling as he docs about the matter, mat-ter, believes that he should resign, Jand Intends to do so. At the time of Mr. Men Ill's election a) ear ago, It required requir-ed several ballots before the matter could be decided and from this and later developments the superintendent superintend-ent Is Inclined to feel that theie ma) be some anilnus in the Hoaid's treatment treat-ment of him. A statement fiom one of the members mem-bers of the committee lefertcd to above Is to the effect that Mr. Merrill has been supported hi every possible vva) and as leadlly as an) other man would have been suppoitcd. "It Is the Superintendent's duty to make suggestions and the Hoard's privilege and duty to act on the suggestions as It sees lit," said this gentleman, "and In man) Instances we have not alwa)S favoied Supt. HJ Whatever may bo the cause of this HJ move, Supt. Men ill's resignation will jHJ come as a suipiise to the people In HJ goucial.and will be viewed with re- jH gict by practlcall) all of the teachers HJ in the schools.
