Show Volunteer firemen and EMTs work to remove seriously injured 90-year-old LaPreal Spencer of Escalante from her 1991 Lincoln after it collided with a 1982 Chevy pickup Tuesday afternoon. Spencer was life-flighted to LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Her husband and two occupants of the pickup were transported by ambulance to the hospital in Panguitch. Escalante Woman Life-Flighted, Husband And Two Others Injured In Highway 12 Afternoon Accident ESCALANTE Four people were injured Tuesday afternoon, one seriously, when a 1991 Lincoln Lin-coln operated by 90-year-old LaPreal Spencer of Escalante apparently pulled into the path of a 1982 Chevy pickup driven by Tammi Whiterock, also of Escalante. Esca-lante. Volunteer firemen and Emergency Emer-gency Medical Technicians had difficulty removing Mrs. Spencer from her vehicle after they removed re-moved her 92-year-old husband Usher from the passenger seat. Tammi Whiterock, 19, also of Escalante and 7-year-old Tonya Whiterock, her sister, riding as passenger, were both injured and transported by ambulance to Garfield Memorial Hospital. The Bryce Valley ambulance traveled to Escalante to assist the Escalante ambulance in transporting transport-ing the injured victims. Sheriffs deputy Monte Luker who responded to the accident said that Mrs. Spencer's car was turning left from "Liston Lane" onto Highway 12 when it was struck by Tammi Whiterock' s northbound pickup knocking out its windshield and throwing her sister onto the floor. The Bryce Valley ambulance left with Usher Spencer and Tonya Whiterock, bound for the hospital in Panguitch more than 65 miles away. LaPreal Spencer was flown to LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City from the Escalante Airport in an emergency medical fixed wing aircraft sent from St. George. On Tuesday evening, Usher Spencer and Tammi Whiterock remained hospitalized at Garfield Memorial Hospital. Tonya Whiterock White-rock was treated and released. Deputy Luker said that he is continuing to investigate the accident and that he has issued no citations. He was assisted at the scene by Panguitch Police Officer Dan Jensen, Officer-in-Training Brandon Haws and local volunteer firefighters. Escalante EMT's on duty were Stan Stowe, Cindy Steed, Linda Crawford, Jim Bowman, Verna Goetzinger and Travis Peterson, and Bryce Valley EMT's were Ron Harris, Susan Harris, Mark LaShell, Loni Nelson, Deanna Patterson, Scott Barton and Rebecca Bales. |
