Show Tropic News By Louise Ott 801-679-8776 Can Baugh brought two friends home from summer school. They hiked Bryce Canyon and spent the weekend with Cari's parents, Herb and Dorie Baugh. Genevieve Lague, sister of John Henry Mecham visited from Spirit Lake, Ida. Also visiting was Joni Lyn's father Wayne Beagly from Salt Lake City. They had a great time together. It was reported several weeks ago that Ruth Baugh accompanied accompa-nied granddaughter Kelsey Moore on a trip to the Washington D.C. area. It seems that as Ruth and Kelsey were coming out of the theater in Jamestown, Va., they ran into LaMar and Ethel Le-Fevre. Le-Fevre. Ruth said it was really a surprise to meet your neughbor so far from home. LaMar and Ethel LeFevre had been on a tour to New York City on Lions Club business. They saw many very interesting interest-ing places, such as Philadelphia, the Amish country, Gettysburg, Williamsburg, Jamestown, Mt Vernon, and Washington D.C. They were able to tour Senator Orrin Hatch's office on a personal tour and had lunch in the senators' sena-tors' lunch room. Ruth Ann and husband Lynn Thorne from Syracuse stayed overnight with Sara Littlefield. They were good friends when (See Tropic News On Page 5-A) Tropic News From Page 2-A Shirley Haycock has had her sister-in-law Isabelle Chynoweth from Salt Lake City visiting her for three weeks, then daughter Garna Kay and husband Lee Deuel came from Cedar Cit; to make apricot jam. Shirley says they let Garna Kay do the pitting, while the rest did the other. Bet it will taste good in the cold winter win-ter months. Bart and Peggy Palmer had Gloria Hay den from Reno an d son Sara and her late husband Malen lived in Layton. Also visiting with their mother Sara were James and Susie Littlefield from San Francisco, Calif,. This is the first time that they have; been here when it hasn't rained. James and Susie love to walk and when it rained, that hindered their activity. ac-tivity. Margaret and Marge Mecham brought three great-grarnddaugh-ters home with them over the Pioneer Day holiday. Th.en Beth and Bill Hubner from West Valley Val-ley City came down over the holiday and got them. Tice and wife Paula Pahmer here for the funeral of Eldon Palmer. At the Faye and DeVar Pollock home were Marty and Gary Ott, along with brother Veni Palmer, and sister Barbara Clemens. El-don's El-don's funeral was held last Wednesday with many friends who came from Hawthorne, Nev. and many more who used to live there in attendance. What a beautiful tribute to him that they loved him enough thai: they would come in support of Eldon and Helen. For Eldon's many friends, it was a reunion of dear friends. Sara Littlefield an d Agnes Littlefield Lit-tlefield were in Panguitch on business. They have a good time together and enjoy each other. It is special to have a sister that one can spend quality time with. Mary Ott was in St. George for a doctors appointment and after coming home, she and daughter Marilyn Murdock took Wallace Ott to see the doctor in Cedar City. Marilyn helped her father water the 600 trees that he has planted. Wallace takes at least four or five loads of water a day to those trees, so when it rains Wallace is proba.bly more thankful thank-ful than the res'; of us for the moisture. It is so extremely hot, and dry. When it rained in June many of the older residents said that they never remembered a rain storm like that in June. Wish we would be blessed with another one. True Ott came over on Saturday Satur-day to help mark the calves and, with the willing and capable hands of Pete Mangum, the task was completed. Then True and father Stanley took them up on the mountain. They had a real good time together. Lowell and Margaret Mecham had a family get together with all of their children at Kanab Creek, They have 10 grandchildren and all were here: except Toni who is still in the care center in Salt Lake City. Merrilee Mecham said that the Bryce Valley Class of 1987 held their 10-year class reunion. Ted Kennedy from California was in attendance and David Barney from Taft, Calif, called and reported re-ported his activities. Everyone had a fantastic time seeing each other again. Clare and Mary Lee Ramsay attended tine funeral of their sister Maidia Christensen, of Kanarrav-ille. Kanarrav-ille. The summer is passing very fast. The girls are at the gym. practicing volleyball, so school .can't be t:oo far off. Kim and Kathi Ott were in town over the holiday visiting their loved ones. The loud boom that woke everyone eve-ryone up on the morning of July 24 was a prelude to the early morning breakfast held in Can-nonville. Can-nonville. Stanley and Louise Ott and Minnie Nielson attended and met a de:ar friend, Joan Henderson Cowles,, who was here visiting with her brother and sister-in-law Mr and Mrs Ernie Henderson. It was so good seeing Joan and visiting vis-iting vith her again. She lives in Bountiful has four children and 18 grandchildren. The breakfast was great and Joan was an added bonus. bo-nus. Visiting with Clive and Thel-ma Thel-ma Elybee over the holiday were daughter Sharon and husband Chris White, Mary Ann By bee and daughter Jessica Castor, Gary and Kristen By bee from the St.George area, and Craig and Brenda Bybee, and Kaylynn and Paul Harward from the Salt Lake City area. George, LeRoy, Lucille and Julia Marshall, children of the late Viola Marshall, were in town recapturing memories. Bernard and son Bernie John son were here for the Johnson reunion. While they were here, Malen Mecham got all 10 past LDS bishops together for a picture. pic-ture. In attendance were Bernzird Johnson, Malen Mecham, Cliive Bybee, Lowell Mecham, Franz Shakespear, Rod Syrett, Bill P ollock, ol-lock, Carl Shakespear, Lonnie Pollock and Tropic Ward's hew bishop Scott Barton. Visiting Vicki Syrett was sister-in-law Tyla Walton. The two attended some of the plays at the Shakespearean festival. Vicki made a trip to Salt Lake City to help her mother Ethel Walton celebrate her birthday. Jean Syrett traveled to St. George to see her dentist and other doctors. Daughter Dawnetta Rutledge brought her home. Attending a mission report in Bear River City for Connie Shakespear, daughter of the Donald Don-ald Shakespears, were Connie's grandparents Malen and Marian Mecham. Visiting with parents E'lwood and Colleen Campbell is their son Bruce and hiswife Marcia, and their daughter. Gene Chynoweth helped Jim Kennedy, Logan, build a road, bring in a camp trailer, and clear a site on the old Johnson Ranch up Bryce Wash. Jim and Kathy Kennedy bought the land from Jack and Mae Chynoweth several years ago and plan to build a home there in next two to four years. Jim plans on retiriing from his position as a forestry professor at Utah State Universi ty and Kathy from hers as a school psychologist psy-chologist with the Cache County School District. They hope to . keep the old ranch open to folks in the commmunity to walk, ride and enjoy, but request no fires or motor vehicles, please.
