Show ODD FELLOWS HAVE A FOND OF SIMM FOR A HOME IN UTAH Grand Lodge in Session in Ogden Elects Officers for the Ensuing En-suing Year Salt Lake City Chosen as Next Meeting Place Resolutions of Respect for H. C. Wardleigh, Past Grand Master. The grand lodge of Utah, I. O. O. F., held the fifth meeting of Its convention, conven-tion, in Knights of Pythias hall this morning, commencing at 9:30 o'clock and continuing until 11 45. Another session Is being held this afternoon and the convention will be closed tonight with an open meeting and banquet, under the auspices of the Ogden lodge. At the afternoon session yesterday, W. T. Hopkins of Salt Lake was appointed ap-pointed assistant to the grand secretary; secre-tary; S. J. Wormdahl of Salt Lake was named grand marshal and Charles Alcott and S. McLeese of Salt Lake and John Wilson of Coalville Coal-ville were made custodians of the secret work. During the meeting a committee of past grandmasters was also appointed appoint-ed to draw up resolutions respecting the death of tho late past grand master, II. C. Wardleigh and the late W. T. Rowc. An amendment to the constitution to raise the dues and put over a system sys-tem for the blanket bonding of tho,' grand lodge officers was voted down by the legislative committee. Char-tors Char-tors were recommended Issued to the Kenilworth and Roosevelt Odd Fellows Fel-lows and the Rebekahs at Payson and Richfield. The remainder of the afternoon aft-ernoon was spent in committee work. In the evening, at the Odd Fellows hall In the Fraternity block, degree work was put on for the benefit of the grand lodgo. Salt Lake lodge No. 2 put on the first degree and Queeii City lodge No. 4 Rebekahs conferreo the assembly degree on fifty new members The decree work was done in a highly efficient manner and the two lodges were complimented upon their pleasing work. Following the two business sessions, ses-sions, the joint social and banquet was held in tho Knights of Pythias hall under the auspices of tho Ogden lodge; This event was thoroughly enjoyed en-joyed by all present and, during the servinc of the sunner. thn mornhprK of the different lodges bocame much better acquainted with each other and a fine spirit of fraternalism prevailed. pre-vailed. The new officers of the grand lodge were elected at the morning session today and are as follows: Grand master, W. H. Scott of Salt Lake; deputy grand master, Roy Wat-rous Wat-rous of Salt Lake; deputy warden, F. H. Cellventra, Bingham; grand treas- urer. J. IT. Hornung, Manti, and grand i representative, W. II. Brereton of ! Provo. Rev. P. A. Simpkin of Salt Lake was re-elected grand secretary without opposition. Salt Lake City was chosen as the next meeting place for the grand lodge. A pleasing feature of the meeting was the receipt of a greeting from the grand lodge of Maryland, the mother lodge of the country and which Is now in session at Baltimore. The report of the "home" board also elicited pleasurable comment. This board was appointed several years ago to take up the work of getting together a fund with which to build an Odd Fellows' home in Utah ana their report was to the effect that they now had $15,000 on hand. Another An-other feature of the meeting, which tended to slop a lot of argument, was the appointment of a committee to codify the constitution and by-laws for the next session of the grand lodge. Rcbckahc Meet. The Rebekah State assembly met this morning in the Odd Fellows hall in the Fraternity block and, aside from routine business and committee work, elected the following officers for the ensuing year: President, Gertrude McClure of Tre-monton; Tre-monton; vice president, Florence Cotter Cot-ter of Lehi; warden, Joanna Melton of Salt Lake; secretary, Clara I, Moore of Salt Lake and treasurer, Rose Smith of Nephl. The former officers In the respective respec-tive offices as given above were; Mrs. Sarah A. Hadley, Gertrude McClure, Mc-Clure, Florence Cotter, Clara I. Moore and Althea Brown. All of these officers of-ficers and all of the appointive offi cers, with two exceptions were present pres-ent nt the meeting and it was estimated esti-mated that upwards of 200 members were also in attendance. There was no legislation of Importance consummated consum-mated at the meeting. This afternoon the both lodges held their memorial services and installation installa-tion of officers. During the afternoon sessions, the officers of both organizations were in-stalled in-stalled and the following appointive offices filled in the Odd Fellows lodge: Grand marshal. E. II. Smith of Salt Lake; grand conductor, Robert lUon-zier lUon-zier of Schofleld; grand herald, J. W. McGann of Mt. Pleasant; grand guardian, W. H. Zenor of Park City; grand messenger, W. T. Coombe of Robinson lodge, and grand chaplain, W. S. Morris of Tooele. Early in the session, a large committee com-mittee was appointed to arrange for a celebration to commemorate the fiftieth fif-tieth anniversary of the lodge in Utah, which will occur on July 2D, of the present year. Tonight the convention will close with a social and entertainment in the Knights of Pythias hall. |
