Show Wild-Life Plan Now Working To Advantage Rapid progress is being made . under the new federal-state wildlife wild-life management plan which', was inaugurated in Utah last November, Novem-ber, Marcus Nelson of Brigham City, the leader in charge and Dr. D. I. Ramussen, head of the Utah Cooperative Wildlife Research unit in Logan and project consultant, stated Tuesday. Since the beginning of the project, pro-ject, most of the work has centered cen-tered around the making of survey sur-vey and cover maps of each state game refuge, study of winter concentration con-centration of d"cl:s and winter losses and utilization or refuges, Dr. Rasmussen said. "We are just getting a good start on the project," Dr. Rasmus- ' sen explained, "but already we are seeing actual' results. Our general aim is to investigate the present re.bitat and conditions of wildlife and develop future management policies to be used on a state water fowl areas." The state-wide, four-year project pro-ject is being sponsored by the Ltaii i:is!i and Game department and the federal wildlife o'egram authorised by the I'ittman-Rob-ertson act. Lee Kay of the state fish and game department is project pro-ject supervisor, and Cecil B. Williams Wil-liams of the Bear River Game Bird refuge is working with Dr. Rasmussen as a consultant. Other organizations and individuals aiding aid-ing in the project are Dr. Still-man Still-man Wright of Ogden, regional aquatic biologist, private duck clubs at Brigham City, Ogden, Farmington and Salt Lake City, and wild life federations of Ogden Og-den Vernal and East Millard county. Objectives in addition to those new being worked on Include , studies of the annual removal of hunters and use by hunters; productivity pro-ductivity of waterfowl through nesting studies; determine obnoxious obnox-ious effects of trash fish on waterfowl; wa-terfowl; study of the economics of furbearer especially muskrats on waterfowl areas; study of Botulism Bot-ulism and Its control; study of marsh vegetation; and study of possibilities of using game refuges re-fuges for limited livestock grazing. |
