By Mel Osborn The Annual Beaver Stake Cub Scout Pinewood Derby was held Firday, March 23, at the Beaver 3rd-4th Ward LDS Cultural Hall, under the direction of District Cub Committee Chairman, Doug Erickson and District Cub Commissioners, ' Nella Black, Mike Robinson and McKay Farrer. Derbys were run in the 7 wards in Beaver, Minersville Miners-ville and Milford on March 21st and 22nd. Those boys receiving 1st, 2nd and 3rd place honors were advanced into Stake competition. Winners in the Stake were: 1st place Wade Gray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gray, Beaver, 3rdWardPack3323; 2nd place was Andy Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Jones, Beaver 3rd Ward Pack 3323; 3rd place was Eric Edwards, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ricke Edwards, Beaver 1st Ward Pack 3321. Gold, silver and bronze medals were presented to the winners by Doug Erickson. Many friends and relatives came to cheer on their favorite contestant. Each cub scout in the stake was given a Pinewood Derby kit consisting of 1 block of wood, 4 nails and 4 wheels, along with a set of rules. The boys, with the help of their fathers, began the process pro-cess of turning that block of wood into a fast racing car. Winners from the wards who competed in the stake were: Beaver 1st Ward Pack 3321: First place, Brad Harris; Har-ris; 2nd place, Eric Edwards; Ed-wards; 3rd place, Ryan Yardley.
