Show ionih vo enter Dairy HoiforOoEif est Plans are being set for the annual Dairy Heifer Contest Con-test sponsored by Utah Dairy Commission and the Utah Holstein Association. The contest is aimed to teach important principles in dairy management, according ac-cording to Ned Zaugg, Extension Ex-tension specialist for dairy youth programs. After reviewing re-viewing recommended references ref-erences and consulting specialists, contestants will pit their knowledge in an- swering key questions related re-lated to those principles. All youth who participate by sending in contest sheets will vie for a registered Holstein heifer calf and other awards to be presented May 18 at the Richmond Black and White Dairy Show. The calf is being presented pre-sented this year by J.H.A. members Eugene and Bob Ropelato, of Weber County. Bob is president of the association. as-sociation. Other awards include a $350 tuition scholarship to USU by Cache Valley Breeding Breed-ing Association for second place; a $200 scholarship by KSL radio station and a friend of the dairy industry for third place; a $100 scholarship by the Richmond Black and White Show organization or-ganization for fourth place; a set of electric clippers by Smith and Edwards, for fifth place; and belt buckles by Brown Equipment Company Com-pany for sixth through tenth places. Inscribed "Old Timer" pocket knives will be presented by Federal Land Bank Association for 11th through 40th prizes. Those who send in slogans to be used in promoting the use of milk and dairy foods will also compete for cash prizes; $25 first, $15 second and $10 third in a slogan contest. All youth interested in participating in these contests con-tests are encouraged to contact con-tact their local county extension ex-tension offices for details. |
