Show SEEKING A CORNER. INPOLO PONIES LAKEWOOD, N. X, April J4.-In a keen rivalry for 1, 01,01s in the coming tournament of the Lakewood Polo club George T. Gould and Harry Payne Whit-r.ey Whit-r.ey have cornered the market for polo ponies. After sourffAg the ranches of California Mr. Whltaey's agents succeeded In obtaining ob-taining ten fleet and well-trained ponies, for which Mr. Whitney paid $20,000. Ths ponies reached here in a special express car. I Mr. Gould's agents have ridden thousands thou-sands of miles through the Southwest seeking polo ponies. The net result of . their labors was a carload of eight ponies, which arrived . here a few weeks ego. The tournament of th- Lakewood Polo club, which will be held on the Georgian Courth grounds here, will open April 28th. |
