Show MONSTER CARS FOR HARRIM AH LINES Mechanical Officials Decide Upon Standard of Equipment In the Future. SAN FRANCISCO, April 24. The convention con-vention of mechanical officials of the several sev-eral llarrirr.an lines which has been meeting meet-ing here during the past several days artd deliberating on the problem of establishing establish-ing a uniform standard of equipment, for the several roads, has roached several conclusions that will be viewed with considerable con-siderable Interest by railroads throughout the country. Among other things it has been decided that henceforth all lreight cars that are built for the Harrlman lines will be constructed con-structed with steel untlerframes; that stock cars shall have a capacity of 60,000 fiounds; that box cars shall have a capac-ty capac-ty of 80.000 and l'.O.ooo pounds: that all flat, gondola, ballast and 1 hopper-bottom cars shall hive a capacity of lOU.OuO pounds, and that all passenger coaches, chair, mail and express cars shall be of uniform length of sixty feet. In the rem-w.il of th equipment of the Southern Pacific, the Orejrnn Railroad & Navigation company and the Oregon Short Line, these standards will henceforth be observed. |
