Show I'AJXT I P MOIXT PLEASANT "Clean Up and Paint Up" is the -Mt. Pleasant slogan for April. It will be heard on every hand and in every home. "Paint Up" is the movement that comes bounding in right on the heels of the clean-up campaign, and is catching on like the traditional "Wild-fire." Different from other civic campaigns. "Paint up" has a double appeal. It appeals to the vanity van-ity and it appeals to the pocket. It appeals to the vanity in that a very small outlay of money can transform most any home into a beautiful place. H appeals to the pocket in that it adds prolonged life to the wooden t.r-'ciure and renders it far more economical ec-onomical and saleable in the open market. A freshly painted home is a thing of beauty, and an always attractive at-tractive proposition to prospective buyers. lo paint your home and barns and out-houic-s is good business. It is good citizenship, an.I it is a splendid investment, viewed from any angle. The Pyramid is here to boost business bus-iness and to assist in promoting an interest in civic movements for the betterment of the community and the incidental purpose of this comment is to promote the paint trade in this locality, and to stimulate activity I amo:,g the painters. We should like-to like-to see the local paint trade hum fo-about fo-about X.x weeks as it has never hummed before. The time has come, you observe, ob-serve, when the Mayor of Mount Pleasant has proclaimed a cleaning up day for the beautifying of the city. It reminds us that the time is not so far away that any of us can neglect neg-lect preparations for it, and one of the preparations is to paint the many dingy spots of the town which w should dislike very much for visitors . to see. We are hoping, of course, that Mount Pleasant will make this year the very best appearance it has ever made. The town will be rated v.hether we enter the "Clean Town Contest" or whether we idly sit by and let the rubbish accumulate. It is desirable to have the old town as bright and clan as possible, and nothing noth-ing can add so much to appearance as fresh paint. It is natural for visitors to size up the town by appearances. A dirty, rusty town appeals to nobody, and we must keep Mount Pleasant from such unsightliness as will cause people peo-ple to think we are on the down grade. With the municipal authorities authori-ties repairing and cleaning the streets, and individuals painting their houses and cleaning their premises, we can count upon commanding the admira'ion of many people who visit our cii. |
