Show Beatle Fuss? It Doesn't Bother Us The recent popularity contest initiated by John Lennon between he and his fellow Beatles and the Christian faith will not have much effect on radio programming in the Salt Lake area, according to comments com-ments from DJ's around town. When asked by the Chronicle' if the recent furor would cause any change in their programming, the unanimous answer was "no." OF THE TEN stations broadcasting broadcast-ing in the valley, only two play Beatles music at all. They are KCPX and KNAK. KCPX's Bill Terry summed up his station's plans when he said, "We play their music, not their philosophy." KLUB radio said their format didn't include the Beatles, "just good music." KALL, KBBC (C e n t e r v i 1 1 e), KMOR, KSL, KSXX, KWHO, AND WIC all have neglected the Beatles in their original programming, so the Beatles vs. Christ fuss doesn't touch them at all. KSOP, THE AM-FM country and western station, is probably the most strongly anti-Beatle station in the valley. DJ Dude Williams noted that the Beatles have a western music record out. "But we here at KSOP are loyal to the true country coun-try and western artists," he said. KNAK'S BILL Hesterman, thinks the Beatles have a great sound. "Their personal life is their own," he opined. "And their popularity certainly hasn't gone down. We get as many requests for them as ever. KNAK will continue to play the Beatles." So the Beatles bop on, and Beatle fans continue to swoon at every note from their English idols. And those who take the other side well, how's church attendance lately?' |
