Show " ' " iNumoer la Medical School Gains New Head of Surgery The University of Utah Board oi Regents today approved the appointment ap-pointment of Keith Reemtsma, M.D., as Professor and Head of the program in Surgery to its fullest potential as a leader in U.S. medical medi-cal education." Dr. Ralph C. Richards, Rich-ards, Professor of Surgery, has served during the interim period as acting head of the Department. DR. REEMTSMA is noted for his work in organ transplantation, and plans to continue this vital work here. He is the author and coauthor co-author of more than 70 scientific papers on various subjects including includ-ing cardiovascular and pediatric surgery. The 40-year-old surgeon served as a Naval Medical Officer during the Korean conflict, with service at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia; Phila-delphia; the Field Medical Service School, USMC, Camp LeJeune, N.C.; and served with U.S. Navy Surgical Team 16, of the Far East Command. Department of Surgery of the University's Uni-versity's College of Medicine. The appointment is effective on Sept. 1, 1966. DR. REEMTSMA is Professor of Surgery at Tulane University, New Orleans, La. He attended Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah; Idaho State University in Poca-tello; Poca-tello; and received his M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania Pennsyl-vania School of Medicine in 1949. He also holds the degree of Doctor of Medical Science from Columbia University. Dr. Reemtsma served his internship intern-ship and residency in surgery at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, and joined the faculty of the Tulane Medical School as an assistant professor pro-fessor of Surgery in 1957. In 1962 he was advanced to Associate Pro- fessor of Surgery, and in 1966 to Professor of Surgery. ACCORDING TO College of Medicine Med-icine Dean, Dr. Kenneth B. Castle-ton, Castle-ton, "Dr. Reemtsma's appointment came following an exhaustive search throughout the United States for the finest person possible to be head of this vital department of the College of Medicine.
