Show SCHOOL MAKES IMPROVEMENTS The Washington school, which like .'ill others in this district, operates on low finances, has shown remarkabie ingenuity in ihe equipping of the playgrounds and the addition of supplemental supplemen-tal reading material to their 'library, 'li-brary, Recently the board of education educa-tion purchased a lot adjoining the school playground from Jos, Jolley, and the past few weeks citizens and students haye been at work grading and leveling the place into a fine baseball diamond. dia-mond. In addition, a number of unsightly trees were uprooted which allows for a number of young ash trees planted by the school around the church and gymnasium to show to good advantage. ad-vantage. Another improvement was the building of 250 feet of two-rail galvanized one and one-half inch pipe fence, set in a strong concrete con-crete base, enclosing the south side of the school grounds. The cost of the materials was defrayed de-frayed by the funds the students ' obtained by doing janitor work in the building. The work was supervised by Thomas Cottam and the labor donated by the-citizons the-citizons of ,,Vasihngton. V.'Uh the students doing the janitor work, the school has in recent years- added a number of needed and valuable improvements improve-ments to the institution, such as a set of swings, reading tables for e.ich room, twenty large framed pictures, a set of scenery for the stage in the gymnasium, a good piano, a good magazine for each school room and supplied each pupil in the school with a subscription to Current Events or My Weekly Reader. It is estimated that through this means, approximately approxi-mately 1 GOO has been available avail-able for improvements at the school .which could not have been received otherwise. |
