Benson Something New Has Been Added One of the cutest things Has come to live with us; He never cries and never sings, He doesn't even fuss. He dresses for dinner in his tails, And dines on grass and seeds. He has ten times the strength of whales In "dreams" among the weeds. All day long he plays and runs Around his castle of stone. His color is that of the sun's, And he lives in his world alone. He winks his eyes in merriment, And waves his arms about. When I say "bow wow" in won-derment He looks at me in doubt. Mother calls him a "gold fish," A "poor sucker" daddy titters, But to me, he's just a swish Ol something new that glitters. June 25, 1948 Last Date of Pub July 23, 1948 BOOKS At The Library Listed below are several new books which are now available at the Bingham Canyon branch of the Salt Lake county library for your reading pleasure, accord-ing to Mrs. Gwen Knudsen, li-brarian. Have you read Black Boy? If not, now is the time to treat your-self to an outstanding autobiog-raphy. Richard Wright, that rarely gifted American author, tells his own life story an hon-est, dreadful, heart breaking story of his negro childhood and youth. It calls to your attention the vicarious cultural transfusi-ons he received through books the void o fculture from which he sprang, the terror from which he fled and his unquestionable desire to live a dignified, honor-able, normal life, make this book excellent reading. The Milk Route by Martha Ostenso, just received and now available. Community life is suc-cessful homogenized in this story of a mid western town where neighborliness prevails and where Ben Start, philosophical milk-man, is the friendly link between back porches. Entertaining germ free. The Goose's Tale, written by Barnaby Dogbolt is the very lat-est edition in our library. A riotous blend of sin, sex and sat-ire. It is as delectable a bit of fun and fable as has ever been served to a delightful public. Don't forget smart as a fox are the people who read all summer. |
