Show ' 3 METAL UNIONS SIGNCONTRACTS Completion of contract negotiations negoti-ations and signing of contracts between the United States Smelting Smelt-ing Refining and Mining Co. and three local mine and smelter workers unions in Midvale, Lark and Bingham were announced Tuesday in a joint statement issued iss-ued by company and union officials. of-ficials. Making the statement were F, S. Mulock, vice president and general manager of western operations, op-erations, USSRM, and Orson T. Jenson, president of the Midvale Mill and Smeltermen's union; Clair Reynolds, president of the Lark Miners' union, and Duane McCandless, secretary of Bingham Bing-ham Underground Miners' union No. 2. Under terms of the contracts, the unions gained a 96c per shift increase in wages and two year contracts with reopening privileges, privi-leges, for negotiatiation of wages and holiday pay and for the negotiation ne-gotiation of other matters not now specifically covered by the contracts. Also included was an additional addition-al holiday next summer provided that a normal crew works at each of the three operations on one Sunday, for each of. the named holidays occurring prior to May 1, 1949. Both the holiday and vacation va-cation eligibility requrements were liberalized through time allowances for injury and illness absenteeism. Mr. Jenson of the Midvale union un-ion explained that "substantial adjustments in a number of wage classifications were gained" and officers of the mne locals said they had gained upward adjustments adjust-ments in several classifications and, in addition, a 100 per cent increase in "rubber money" allowance. al-lowance. The union officials reported that their local officers have filed non-Communist affidavits and that each local has agreed that any affiliation with a local, national na-tional or nternational labor organization or-ganization will depend upon filing fil-ing of non-Communist affidavits by officers of such organizations and compliance with other provisions pro-visions of the labor management relations act of 1947.
